Funky Sexy Dirty, Silks and Spice Bar, London

Well ,it seems whilst most people are heading out of the City and home from a long week, some are heading toward a brand new night called - “funky, sexy, dirty” its once a month on the final Friday of every month.

This catchy title is the brain child of Paul Briggs, who has become a very popular dj in his own right (check out the funky, sexy, dirty website) and is branching out to start his own scene. Well, he must have done his research right as the launch night was a great success!!!

I walked in at around 9.30pm to find a few people strewn around the bar/club. This was a) good as I could see the layout of the place and the fancy looking fish tank at the back b) bit disappointing as I wanted to see what kind of crowd would be gracing the floor? Wasn’t 9.30pm late for city standards? - Apparently not!

With great patience I walked around sipping my free Champagne and began my Terminator style analysis of the crowd that was slowly spilling in. I was amazed to see that very few suits were in the club; it was far more people who had gone home to get changed (hence the late opening times and few people here presently???) or as I later found out, had brought a change a clothes with them and got changed at work. Thus the club was slowly but surely beginning to get busier and busier and much to my surprise (and my other mate!!!) it was beginning to fill up with loads of - Girls! They were coming in droves of 3’s and 4’s at some points - come on son, bring it on!!!!!!!

I found myself screaming at Andy at the top of my lungs, my company for the evening.

It wasn’t long before we were well on our way into a cracker of an evening! The crowd were very friendly and everyone we spoke too introduced us to their friends (especially good in this club as its very intimately designed); who then in turn introduced us to their friends and so on and so forth and very soon the drinks were flowing big time. It did seem like the crowd were mainly city workers whose offices were very close to Silks and Spice bar, hence the friendly atmosphere and everyone having an acquaintance of the other to some degree. Having said this though some of the stunna’s were definitely from other parts of London and Essex - awright mate!

The music started with sexy house, which was definitely more soulful and very ‘bar’ like music in speed and pitch. When the next dj began his set - again Mr Paul Briggs, who was taking his launch party night very seriously indeed and informed me - ‘he was not to be disturbed’ during his whole set; - Good lad, I like it when people take their work seriously! Paul was chaperoning and making everyone feel welcome as well as checking on various area’s of the club to make sure everything was on schedule and up to standard. Omnipresent is probably the best word for this chap, who got everything he deserved, which was pulling in great numbers and pumping out some really popular uplifting (although sometimes over played) house tunes, which went down a right treat! Soon the club was amass with people dancing everywhere and the free champers must have loosened everyone off as there was a tremendous atmosphere with loads of little circles and couples all nattering away continuously.

Both Me and Andy, were so impressed with the final product of ‘funky, sexy, dirty’ that despite the numerous offerings London has to offer on any given Friday night, I know where I am headed from now on, in my opinion your going to struggle to beat the mix of funky, sexy, dirty house tunes and friendly as well as attractive crowd - without a dress code I might add!!!
